General Features

• Choice of Popular Algorithms -- Choose between a static and a dynamic algorithm for determining what submissions are made popular. The static algorithm will promote a submission to popular once it reaches a certain score. The dynamic algorithm will take into account the average score of submissions over the last several days.
• Application Programming Interface (API) -- New with 2.0, OpenVoter sports an API which will allow developers to tie into your site. The best news here is that the API will only improve with time.

Administrative Features

• Ease of Management -- As a site administrator, we know that it needs to be easy to go through and manage the site's content. OpenVoter provides a clean admin management tool which allows you to go through the submissions, comments, and users for whatever you need, be it to warn a user, ban a user, or simply delete a submission for whatever reason.
• Support for Moderators -- Let's face it, a social media or news site can get a lot of submissions, and not all of them are from legitimate users. Social sites unfortunately can become the target of spammers. So if they become a little too rampant for you to handle, you can appoint trusted moderators to help go through the reports and weed out the spam, all with the knowledge that they have limited access to the content within the site.
• Ad Support -- Want to monetize the site a bit? The Ads management page allows you to easily paste in the code from Google AdSense© or whatever ad service you happen to use. Not only that, but you can also determine which pages the ads show up on.
• Bans -- Again, to help out with combatting spammers, you have the ability to ban users. Ban users by E-mail Address, Username or IP address. Not only can you ban users, but you can also ban domains. So if you don't want to see a certain domain submitted to your site, simply add it to the banned list.
• Themes -- OpenVoter comes out of the box with several themes with more to come. And better customization tools are under way. And because OpenVoter is free software under the GPL license, you are more than welcome to dig into the code to add any theming customizations you want to add yourself.

Features for the Users

• Sharing -- Want your users to be able to share great stories, photos, and videos with their friends? Well with the sharing dialogue, now they can. The submissions they share will be sent to all the users following them.
• Favorites -- Does a story really stand out in the crowd? Users can now mark submissions as favorites to show others or remind themselves of great submissions. But wait, there's more. Not only can they mark submissions as favorites, but they can also mark users' comments as favorites as well!
• RSS Feeds -- OpenVoter provides many RSS feeds for users to subscribe to. Users can subscribe to popular submissions, upcoming submissions, submissions by tag, category, subcategory, and even to view submissions by a particular user.
• Private Messaging -- Users can talk amongst themselves to extend a conversation beyond comment threads, or to just talk about a whole lot of nothing. It's up to them.
• Alerting -- Users can opt for receiving either on-site alerts, or e-mail alerts for new comments on threads they're subscribed to, when something is shared with them, or when they receive a new message. Or if they happen to prefer not to receive such notifications, they can turn one or all notifications off. It's up to them.
